Satu Nekala is a self-taught visual artist and musician from Tampere. Satu’s works feature huge symbols. Satu herself is also a fan of big stars like Elvis and Samantha Fox. All of her artworks are made at home. Satu describes her work as follows: “I haven’t attended any art schools, I just decided to try making the presidents at home. I have shaped them by hand from das mass. This is my first art exhibition. I also make songs on keyboards and sometimes on guitar at home. So I compose, play, write lyrics and sing my songs.”.
Curators’ comment: Satu Nekala’s presidential sculptures are both humorous interpretations and vivid images of their models. The expressions and gestures of the statues make them look really alive. Satu is fantastic!
