OAF visual arts program explores visions of future and multi-sensory experiences

Outsider Art Festival OAF visual arts program explores what the world looks like from the perspective of an outsider artist. Two group exhibitions have been curated with a diverse range of paintings, graphics, photography, textile sculptures, installations and multi-sensory scent artworks.

The Future exhibition at the Cultural Centre Caisa’s gallery examines the future from an outsider’s perspective. The possibilities and threats of the future are considered through both the self and the past. The artists of the Future exhibition are Mika Mäkiranta, John Reis, Calvin Guillot, Neea Haapala, and Silja Tusa. The exhibition is open 14.-23.8.2025

The exhibition’s artist Silja Tusa told OAF about her expectations for the festival:
“I am looking forward to the festival! It is always a pleasure to share my art with the audience, and in the festival environment you also get to know other artists! Festivals feature a diverse range of art from very different artists, representing diverse ways of seeing and being in the world. I am very proud that the curatoring team described my works as nightmarish. In addition, I want my work to serve as a reminder of the fragility and transience of everything.”

Pertti’s Choice’s gallery’s exhibition From Senses to Sensations offers a multi-sensory experience that allows visitors to immerse themselves fully in art. The artists of the From Senses to Feelings exhibition are Otto Kasvio, Iida Kilpeläinen, Veronica de Mannor, Neea Haapala and Eeva-Liisa Puhakka. The exhibition is open from 15.-23.8.2025

The exhibition has been curated inclusively. The planning and execution were carried out by the artistic team for visual arts, which includes curators Johanna Konttinen and Jaana Miettinen, and mentors Christine Langinauer and Jani Leinonen.

We asked Jaana Miettinen about her hopes for the visual arts program:
“I look forward to the festival offering visitors, and artists, a great opportunity to expand the diverse world of art and to freely express their equal personalities through their art. I would like the works to bring out the artists’ deepest feelings, thoughts and views on all things, with an open mind to the entire nation.”
