Kristiina Murola

Kristiina Murola is a storyteller and a comic book artist who works at the Autism Foundation’s Vallila art studio. Murola writes and illustrates her own stories, which feature mermaids and fairies. She draws inspiration for her storytelling from fairy tales, films and the stories of the Bible. For Murola, the most important things in writing stories are building tension and showcasing friendship that carries through the dramatic twists and turns of the story.

Murola has previously presented her stories to colleagues in the art studios of the Autism Foundation. She has worked as a scriptwriter and actor in the Autism Foundation’s Theatre Group Vautsi’s “Repikää tämä muuri alas – Ronald Reaganin elämä ja teot” -teoksessa” (2021), which was performed at Teatteri Kultsa. Murola’s work has also been featured in the “Sarjakuvia kirjolta” anthology (2022), which was produced in the Autism Foundation’s comics workshops.

Curators’ comments: “Kristiina Murola’s texts and illustrations and her take on the genre of fairy tales are completely unique in her own signature style. The world of Murola’s fairy tales convey the dreams and hopes of the author. The chaotic nature of life is enclosed in the form of a fairy tale in a stunning way. The result is utterly delightful and very refined.”
