OAF takes over the Cultural Centre Caisa
You can take part in the True Equality party at the Cultural Centre Caisa on 15 August by buying a support ticket! The programme includes speeches, performances by festival artists and a fantastic menu designed by Teresa Välimäki and Sami Helle. Proceeds from the event will go towards employment for people with special needs.
On Saturday 17 August, Caisa will host a music night, with two emerging artists taking to the stage in Caisa Hall: the Nairobi folk storyteller Ondi, and the musician and performance artist Stella Massa, who explores her Karelian roots through spoken word poetry, video art and music.
OAF X Mad House performances at the House of Text
The House of Text’s Parvisali venue will host four great performances on the opening weekend of the festival!
On Friday 16 August, Harold Hejazi’s live participatory video game performance Adventures of Harriharri – Episode III will take place. In the show, the audience will join Hejazi in guiding a character named Harriharri, who has just moved to Finland and who faces constant obstacles as he tries to integrate into Finnish society as an outsider.
On Saturday 17 August, the installation Research Station Nunatak by dance artist Fri Nilas Lindell will explore the concept of space through questions such as: How spaces are created? What kind of spaces can we create? How can we influence the creation of space? What kind of spaces are good to be in and how can spaces expand norms?
OAF’s opening weekend at the House of Text will culminate on Sunday 18 August with two meditative performances: Lovely by Noora Juppi and Tomorrow, and the Tales from the Wind by Timjune Tianjun Li. Lovely is a performance by pole dancer Juppi that explores the intersection of pole dance performance and meditation practice. Today, Tomorrow, and the Tales from the Wind is a work combining photography, music, and visual art by Chinese-born artist Tianjun Li, which explores themes of memories, nature, and social justice in the Anthropocene era.
