The performing arts program for OAF tickles all senses

The performing arts program for Outsider Art Festival tickles all senses, opens windows to new kinds of connections and takes a stand. This year the performing arts program includes Ksenia Voy Kheninen and Zherbin, LIPGLOSSBOY, Pekka Luodeslampi, Teatteriryhmä Vautsi, Kaaos Company and Homa Shokri with working group. The venues for performing arts program are Cultural Centre Caisa, Espoo Cultural Centre and the radio waves of Radio Helsinki.

The combinations of machine and nature is researched in Ksenia Voy Kheninen’s and Zherbin’s Plants, in which noise making garden is formed by electric plants made of clay, sound waves and found objects. RAT CITY by LIPGLOSSBOY is a multisensory performance diving into the future, studying the embodyment of features of a bio-cyborgchimaera – combination of human and rat – in the year of the rat 2221. New viewpoints to super heroism is displayed in Pekka Luodeslampi’s performance which offers ground breaking absurdity when Luodeslampi smashes objects with an explosive force.

Pekka Luodeslampi believes his performance will appeal to a larger audience:
Everyone is welcome, as you may feel freely – I want to offer an outlet for thoughts. Some may find my performance funny, others may find it exiting and some might think it’s crazy. The experience is individual, come and try something completely different. Enjoy, forget your worries and let the good vibes flow! Especially friends of super heroes, martial arts and brutal force will feel at home!

Audio drama Saunamajurin muistelmat (“The Sauna Major’s Memoirs”) by Teatteriryhmä Vautsi takes a stand for equality highlighting an anti-bullying message. Drawing inspiration from equality and togetherness, Kaaos Company’s Katras is a playful movement conversation between others and the surrounding environment.

Performing artist Homa Shokri brings to the festival a performance called Ashla: 00:00:01, which integrates fantasy, techno-inspired movement and collective bodily scores as responses to unseen structures of fear and control.

Homa Shokri opened her thoughts about the upcoming festival and her performance:
I’m approaching Ashla at the Outsider Art Festival with curiosity more than expectations. This work explores how bodies absorb violence and how it becomes part of their structure. I don’t have a specific target audience, and I’m less interested in directing the audience toward particular thoughts or conclusions. Rather, I want to create a space where something unfinished can linger.
