Kaaos Company

Kaaos Company is an inclusive dance group that has been active for 15 years, challenging normative conventions through their work by opening the stage to a wide variety of bodies. Kaaos Company develops movement language and training methods that create space for the uniqueness of each body. The dancers’ different physical characteristics and abilities are seen as a resource and the basis for new forms of movement and creativity. The group’s works are performed in theaters and schools, on stages, online, and in alternative venues, both locally and internationally.

At the Outsider Art Festival, they will present a performance titled Katras (2021). Katras is a movement-based conversation with others and the surrounding environment, while playing with what emerges from togetherness. An urban flock of four dancers and one musician improvises, follows a structure of movement, and performs in and with the place it inhabits. Katras features Georgie Goater, Kadar Khristan, Jonna Lehto, Siiri Tiilikka, and Sami Kekäläinen (aka MC Zen).

Curators’ comments: “In the piece Katras, a flock of dancers moves as one, communicating through movement rather than words. Katras halts the normal, forward-moving rhythms of urban space, offering an alternative way of being and moving together. At once precise, sensitive, and defiantly self-governed, the piece occupies space in the urban environment.”
