Riina Noro is a versatile artist who creates art from various materials, ranging from textile sculptures to animations. She is best known for her visual art, but she has also, among other things, written scripts and acted with the theatre company Vautsi. In 2023, she was selected as Kettuki’s Artist of the Year. Riina Noro has worked at the Art Studio of the Autism Foundation’s Vallila guidance and coaching services since 2013.
Nöpö-täti (Aunt Nöpö) is Riina Noro’s alter ego, a tribute to Kylli-täti from the children’s television programs of her childhood. In a performance, Nöpö-täti can either present an already completed work or paint a new one, while simultaneously discussing the piece’s peculiarities and strange details. Her works explore current societal issues as well as Riina Noro’s personal interests.
Curators’ comments: ”This piece is absolutely delightfully twisted! Riina’s ability to bring her paintings to life by speaking produces enchanting, completely idiosyncratic performative and visual poetry.”
