Eeva-Liisa Puhakka

Eeva-Liisa Puhakka is a multidisciplinary visual artist who creates kinetic sculptures, installations, as well as sound and scent-based artworks. In recent years, she has dedicated her artistic practice to exploring the language and vocabulary of scent, our relationship with body odors, and the experience of smell in our environment. In her other works, she examines the transformation of rural landscapes, abandoned materials, the relationship between humans and animals, and new biomaterials.

She was a founding member of the Scent Club Berlin collective (2015–2020) and served as Kouvola’s Visual Artist from 2020 to 2022. Her works have been exhibited at the WRO Media Art Festival in Poland, Piksel in Oslo, Transmediale Vorspiele Festival and KW Gallery in Berlin, Germany, as well as at the Seoul Museum of Art and the Nakanojo Biennale in Japan.

During the festival, Puhakka presents a collection of artworks based on scent, touch and sound.

Curators’ comments: “New and surprising! Scent art installations are a truly original art form. Although Puhakka has formal artistic training, the use of scent makes her work feel like outsider art.”.
