The Outsider Art Festival OAF 2026 will be held from August 20 to 30, 2026, in Helsinki and Espoo. This year’s theme is hope. The festival integrates outsider art into the shared cultural conversation and builds cooperation between various actors within the art field. In the OAF x Espoo program, art will be showcased at Länsimetro (West Metro) stations, with the opening ceremony celebrated at EMMA on August 21st. The exhibition artists are Juha Pesonen, Riina Noro, and Mikael Valjakka.
The festival takes place at a time when the resources of the cultural and organizational sectors have weakened, and equal participation is not a given for everyone. OAF responds to this by bringing together outsider art creators, audiences, and partners, and by visibly presenting art in the same arenas as the rest of the art field. The entire program of the OAF 2026 festival is inclusively curated and produced as a collaboration between outsider and insider creators. The program is available on the festival website at www.outsiderart.fi.
OAF is a friend festival of the Helsinki Festival (Helsingin juhlaviikot). Partners for the Espoo events include KulttuuriEspoo, the City of Espoo, Länsimetro Oy, EspooCiné, EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art, and the WeeGee Exhibition Centre. The public can participate in the festival in advance by sending thoughts, poems, or ideas that inspire hope to toivo@outsiderartfestival.fi. Selected messages will be highlighted as part of the festival’s events.
