Milla Pihlajamäki

Milla Pihlajamäki (b. 2000) is an artist specialising in textile sculptures and paintings, who has been working at Lyhty ry’s art and textile workshop Luovilla since 2022. Pihlajamäki’s signature is a bold use of colour and the large size of her crocheted works. Pihlajamäki’s pace of work and creation is fast and rich. The characters in the works emerge as if on the fly – although Pihlajamäki always first decides on the name of her work. This fast pace of work allows for an expressive way of creating, which can be seen in a personal way in Pihlajamäki’s works. The artist’s work Liikeri has previously been on display in the exhibition “Greetings from the Neighbourhood” at Vallila Library.

At the OAF festival, Pihlajamäki will show three differently coloured sculptures of animal figures crocheted from fabrics: Liikeri (“Liger”), Merihevonen (“Sea Horse”) and Aasi (“Donkey”). The works were created and designed by Pihlajamäki at Lyhty Ry’s Art and Textile Workshop in Luovilla.

Curators’ comments: “Pihlajamäki’s works are colourful, chirpy and happy – they make you feel good! The works form a spectacular whole, which we believe will appeal especially to children.”
