What do magpies and rappers have in common? They both love bling. This idea gave birth to MC Harakka, a caricatured, rapping drag alter ego. Behind the character is Estefan Jaakkola, a Finnish-Hungarian multidisciplinary artist, dancer, dance teacher, and fire performer. MC Harakka’s lyrics are a mix of bluntness and metaphor. The audacious, satirical style ruthlessly criticizes the societal elite. The music gives voice to marginalized communities and addresses, among other things, LGBTQ+ experiences, mental health issues, and financial difficulties.
The festival performance is a mix of live music and spoken elements, aiming to engage the audience and inspire hope.
Curators’ comments: ”MC Harakka’s music manages to be incredibly danceable and political at the same time! The tracks refreshingly combine a multitude of different elements, ranging from folk music to singing and rap.”
