Kai-Erik Relanti is a self-taught visual artist. He is a massage therapist by profession. Relanti was born in Turku. Via Helsinki, he came to live and work in Vehmaa, Southwest Finland. Relanti started painting in 1988. Since 2021 he has had more time to focus on art, which has opened up a new kind of richness in his painting. Inspiration for paintings can come from anywhere, often from media such as TV shows and films. Relanti’s most recent works have been shown in two solo exhibitions in Vehmaa and Uusikaupunki.
The festival will showcase works that share the theme of There is time… There is time to be, to sit still or to wait. The abundance of paintings also reflects the way the artist sees other people: appreciating and playing with the mood of the moment.
Curators’ comments: “A soothing and intact body of paintings. In some ways, the works are reminiscent of the art of Alice Neel. It’s great to have paintings from Vehmaa on display in Helsinki.”
