Mika Ruohola is a journalist and movie maker from Vantaa. Kylä (Town) is Ruohola’s second film. It tells the story of Puu-Vallila, the old part of the Vallila district of Helsinki that is still filled with wooden buildings. Kylä delves deep into Puu-Vallila’s rich history and it’s endangered condition.
Curators comments: “Kylä, by Mika Ruohola, is a personal and super sympathetic documentary about the history of Puu-Vallila. The perspective of the movie is interestingly chosen: the director, who is also the narrator, watches his own city and district at the same time as an insider and as an outsider. Kylä is made skillfully in addition to its ingenious content. The soundtrack of the movie is also delightfully atmospheric!”
