Susanne Brokesch

Susanne Brokesch is a versatile artist, poet, DJ, and composer born in Vienna and currently based in New York. She began her career in the Viennese electronic music scene in the 1990s, during which she recorded for the mythical Finnish label Sähkö, among others. Since then, Brokesch has built a remarkable, multidisciplinary repertoire of works spanning several decades. In addition to her electronic music production, Brokesch writes poetry and composes scores for films, exhibitions, theater productions, and radio plays.

Brokesch has released an extensive string of albums across notable international labels. These include Whitecloud (Cheap), Tal-S (Sähkö), sharing the sunhat and so easy hard to practice (Disko B), emerald stars (Chicks on Speed), as well as shallow blues and sunset valet (Stanza Libretto). She regularly collaborates with the art collective gang-art and has recently performed widely across the globe—from Munich’s Die Rote Sonne and Vienna’s Volkskunde Museum to underground spaces in the United States.

Curators’ comments: ”Brokesch is a multidisciplinary artist who brings an experimental and boundary-pushing energy to the festival. The seamless combination of underground electronic music, acoustic instruments, and poetry creates fascinating, surprising worlds. It is a rare treat to get to experience Brokesch live in Finland!”
