Jenni Carlén

Lahti-based visual artist Jenni Carlén boldly experiments with various techniques in her work, and for her, being an artist is, above all, a way to learn new things. Carlén graduated as a visual artisan from the Kaarisilta Art School, and she is currently an active member of the Lahti-based Studio Viis collective. Her works have been widely showcased in group exhibitions produced by the collective across Finland between 2018 and 2026. Through her artistic process, Carlén challenges her own boundaries every day. The artist has a 65 percent reduction in her field of vision, which makes the sense of touch and the fine details of her paintings play an absolutely central role in her work.

For her subjects, Carlén typically selects recognizable characters that appeal to viewers of all ages. She also loves to incorporate humorous tones and hidden jokes into her pieces. At the festival, Carlén will present both paintings and felted works. Felting is a completely new territory for her, so having these pieces selected for the festival was a great and joyful surprise for the artist.

Curators’ comments: ”Carlén’s works are particularly appealing for their playful and humorous imagery that draws inspiration from animation. The felting technique and the tactile feel of the materials truly bring the characters to life!”
