OAF X WeeGee Reads: The Big Lie About Disability

We consider Finland as a model country for disability rights, even though we do not understand even the principles, like how accessibility is a basic human right. Why did the book Suuri valhe vammaisuudesta (the Big Lie About Disability) bring us the first “openly disabled” Finlandia winner? Who are the ones that can and are allowed to create art? OAF X WeeGee Reads event brings together to speak of the matter poet Satu Kankaanpää and the creators of Finlandia winning book Suuri valhe vammaisuudesta, Riikka Leinonen and Sofia Tawast. The event is moderated by poet Sanni Purhonen from Espoo. In midst of the conversation the panelists read their own and each other’s texts. The event begins with a poetry performance by Satu Kankaanpää.

The conversation is in Finnish and interpreted in Finnish Sign Language to the audience.

The event is part of Outsider Art Festival’s programme, and it is organised in collaboration with OAF, City of Espoo and EMMA.

Time: Saturday 23rd of August, 2 PM
