A warm welcome to Myrtillius Kauria’s Modern Slavery exhibition! The exhibition will be held at Pertti’s Choice Gallery as part of Helsinki Design Week festival during 8.9.-30.9.2023. Welcome also to the opening of the exhibition on Thursday 7.9. at 17-19! Pertti’s Choice shop and gallery is located at Helsinki’s Hakaniemi, in the address Hakaniemenkuja 2. Pertti’s Choice is open Wed-Fri 14-18 and Sat 11-15. The space is accessible.
With his rya rug and animation works, Kauria highlights the life of the modern slave, a life of economic starvation and social exclusion, a chronic experience of worthlessness and fear of next week, the next month and the next year.
“For a couple of years now, I have been tying rya rugs by hand and, in a departure from the Finnish traditional and mythological themes, I mainly depict the everyday life of a poor and marginalised person and the everyday details associated with it. Despite their dark content, my rya rugs are in many ways hilarious and the characters are childish, even a little absurd in places.”-Myrtillius Kauria
